Julia Dommna Silver Denarius with Hilaritas reverse, Ancient roman coin
Low stock: 1 left
This is a genuine Denarius from the empress Julia Domna who was the wife of Septimius Severus and was minted in A.D. 193-211. On the reverse it features the goddess Hilaritas, draped, standing left, holding a long palm in her right hand and a cornucopiae in her left hand with two children on either side.
Julia Domna, of Arab descent, reigned as empress from 193 to 211 A.D., as the wife of emperor Septimius Severus. Her sons Caracalla and Geta fought for the succession with Geta being assassinated in 211 A.D. at the age of 22. When her other son Caracella was assassinated in A.D. 217, Julia Domna who was suffering from breast cancer committed suicide.
It is in extremely fine condition which is amazing for being over 1800 years old with such crisp details and would be a fantastic addition to a numismatic collection.
