Christian persecution issue roman coin featuring Jupiter and Victory
Christian persecution issue roman coin featuring Jupiter and Victory
Low stock: 1 left
This Roman coin is part of an interesting group of anonymous civic coinage, issued at a time when the pagan authorities of Antioch appealed to Maximinus to banish the Christians from their city. The idea was that the coins were produced to spread the word that paganism was still the law of the land. It features Jupiter seated left, a globe in his right hand and a long scepter vertical behind on one side and Victory on the other. This coin dates from AD 310-313.
It is in incredible condition for being over 1700 years old and with such crisp details and would be a fantastic addition to a numismatic collection.
