This is a very nice serrate Denarius from L. Pomponius Cn. f. and minted in 118BC in Rome.
Obv: L•POMPONI•CNF, head of Roma right, wearing winged helmet; mark of value X behind. Rev: naked warrior (Bituitus) standing right, holding shield, carnyx, and reins in biga galloping right; L•LIC•CN DOM in exergue.
A serrate denarius was a silver Roman denarius coin with a serrated or indented edge, a unique feature found only on Republican Roman coins from the late 2nd to early 1st century BC. The exact purpose of this serration is unknown, but it may have been an anti-counterfeiting measure, making it harder to create plated coins.
It is in incredible condition for being over 2000 years old with such crisp details and would be a fantastic addition to a numismatic collection.
